I dyed my tips! It's pretty subtle, but still exciting. I have never dyed my hair before, so this was big for me. I went with a dark auburn color, so it would be different, but not too crazy. I love it. Who knew Christy was so good at dyeing hair.

Wearing my fur vest from Cato. It's kind of my new favorite thing. I should always be draped in faux fur. I did let Merlin play with it yesterday. They are best friends.

Trees

 

Out at the tree farm to find the perfect family Christmas tree. Mom always picks the tree within the first five minutes. Christy and I usually just wander. I'm getting so excited for Christmas! And especially my work Christmas party. Only three days left to get things together. Kind of stressing, but it will all work out. Everyone will be drunk in an hour, so I shouldn't even worry.

Another vest! My friend Claire and I went to see a show at The Bishop right after Halloween and decided that we needed to have matching outfits (like the band). We thought that a denim jacket or vest with something on the back would be perfect. Low and behold, I went to Goodwill a few days after and found this vest. Half-off, no less! While I probably won't put any sort of gang logo on it, it did have a butterfly patch and a hole on the back, so it is pretty much perfect. I paired it with my Forever 21 polka-dot blouse to make it a little more feminine. Also, showing off my fancy nail stickers from Christy. I think I like them! They're pretty annoying when they start to chip, but I like having no dry time and the crazy patterns are great.

In other news, I am working on planning my work holiday party. I work at a record label, so the parties are pretty legit. So much to think about, but mainly, my outfit. I have been searching for the perfect sequin-something. Found a gold sequin skirt on ebay, but we'll see how it fits. I never have any luck with ebay for some reason. Ah well, fingers crossed.

Fall Patterns

I love Fall and all the colors and patterns it brings! Pattern mixing used to be my staple. I was basically a master. For some reason, I started easing off on the multiple patterns at once. Not sure what happened. I guess it does take some effort to find things that look good together, but not crazy. I really liked these pieces together, because they were all in a Fall theme and distinct, but not too bold. I threw my favorite sweater over this for a relaxed Saturday afternoon at the market.

A little DIY post for ya. Christy didn't think that this sweatshirt was DIY-enough to post, but that exemplifies my point: minor modifications can be made to clothing to make things awesome. I don't need to slash through the sleeves or bedazzle the heck out of this sweatshirt to make it cool, but it did need some minor adjustments.

When I first saw this top at Avenue (a plus-size only stores - best for basics or sassy grandma clothes), I thought it was perfect. Anyone who knows me, knows I love some embellishment. And it is sweatshirt material, so...winner. However, when I tried it on it was basically tunic length and the sleeves were a little snug, which was not ideal. Since it wasn't on sale, I decided to pass (I'm working on being more selective with clothing. It sometimes works.). But I recently went back to Avenue and there was my sassy sweatshirt in the sale section.

When I got it home, I knew I needed to make some changes before it would be wearable. I first cut off the banded bottom. Sweatshirts are always better when you remove the banded hem. I am pretty lazy, so hemming is not an option. One of my tricks when cutting the hem off a shirt is to cut it a little shorter in the front than the back. Unsewn hems always roll up a bit, and they tend to roll up even more in the back - I guess from sitting, having a butt, whatever. So, to avoid having that awesome shirt-bunched-up-over-your-butt look, I leave it slightly longer in the back.

Then I cut the sleeves to 3/4 length, because that is my favorite sleeve length. Lastly, I cut off some random sequins that were sewn around the triangle-y studded embellishments. I do love a sequin, but it is definitely more wearable without them. I think this baby could be one of my new faves.

Blah, this post got long. Ah well.

Sunday (part 2)

Fall photo-op. Except it was like 80 degrees today. I am a big fan of tucking shirts into elastic waist skirts, but I thought I'd mix it up slightly by doing a half tuck. Not sure it really does much, but I like the slight asymmetrical effect. Other than that, this is a pretty simple outfit for Sunday errands. Oh, and I guess it shows off my new arrow tattoo. Cute.

Oh ya know, just hangin. Took these shots on a cool, rainy evening in Bloomington. I've recently decided that I will wear vests. Although I have always loved layering, vests have never really been my thing. However, I saw this little number at ye olde Goodwill and I thought it would work at some point. I think it looks pretty good with a subtle printed shirt underneath, especially with a little bit of a blousant sleeve. 

Went on a little trip to Nashville, TN this weekend to celebrate my sweet cousin's bday. Those people know how to party. I'm still trying to figure out how to dance to country music, but fortunately we heard "Teach Me How to Dougie" coming out of one venue, so we knew where to go.
