Yelawolf - Bottom Lounge, Chicago

Ohmygosh, I love Yelawolf. Christy and I are basically obsessed. We were so lucky to see him perform at the Bottom Lounge in Chicago last Thursday. It was brilliant. Really. Here is a video Christy shot of the classic "Pop the Trunk." The sound isn't fantastic, but trust me, it was great live.

The show opened with a couple djs, one of which was DJ Craze. Shoot, he was skilled. Then Rittz came onstage. One website describes him as "a ginger fro'd southern rapper." Fitting, as he has long crazy hair and is from Atlanta. Anyway, I had only heard him rapping alongside Yelawolf on the songs "Fulla Shit" and "Box Chevy pt 3" previously, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. He came out with his big hair and gold rings and I was hooked. It helped that we made eye contact like 3 times and are basically dating now. Ha. But really, his flow was nice and the crowd was digging it. "White Jesus" and "High Five" are tight jams.

The crowd at the venue was pretty intense. Lots of weirdos and drunkies. Before Yela even came on, this guy got into a fight with this girl and pretty much punched her. They busted through the crowd right beside us and I had to grab the guy's collar to pull him away from the girl. I lost Christy for a minute and freaked out. Don't worry, she wasn't pulled to the ground and trampled, as I thought may have happened. But, I did lose my prime spot in the 2nd row, which was bothersome. In the tussle, Raf somehow managed to get right next to the stage and was able to stay there the whole time. He would.

It was finally time for Yelawolf and he came out with one of my favorite songs, "Daddy's Lambo." Ugh, I died. Of course, the crowd also converged to get closer to king wolf and I had to fight to stay on my feet. The rest of the show was a combo of fantastic songs and sweaty bodies rubbing all up on me. Oh, and a rogue crowd surfer that kicked me in the head and made me lose my hair clip, but whatever. Yelawolf (especially shirtless) is worth all the stress. There was a post-show half-naked girl fight complete with broken bottles and blood, but no need to focus on that. Christy, Raf and I made it out alive and happy and that's all that matters.

Song of the day: Daddy's Lambo by Yelawolf
